Myles’ passion for the water began in his childhood years. An early connection to the sea led to a keen interest in surfing, paddleboarding, sailing, and now diving. Myles’s unique blend of technical expertise and passion for adventure and relationship building ensure every charter is a seamless, memorable experience.

Stephen Jabaut

Captain Stephen Jabaut grew up sailing on Lake George in the heart of New York’s Adirondack Park. After earning a degree in Behavioral Neuroscience from Lehigh University, he worked as a deckhand aboard a schooner in the Caribbean, then first-mated on Nantucket Island. He earned his 100 Ton US Coast Guard Captain’s License in New York City, teaching sailing with the Manhattan Yacht Club and skippering bareboat charter boats in the Virgin Islands. He also received advanced training as a Wilderness First Responder and EMT in Jackson Hole, Wyoming and now operates pleasure vessels and teaches sailing in Southern California.

Trevor Durant
USCG Licensed Captain
Captain Trevor Durant grew up surrounded by water, spending summers wakeboarding at Castaic Lake and surfing at the beach. His passion for the sea led him to sailing at the age of 29, when he purchased his first sailboat, an 8-foot Sabot. After nearly a decade in the automotive insurance industry, Trevor made a significant career change during the pandemic, obtaining his USCG Captain’s License (Master Captain, 100 Ton). His experiences captaining both sailing yachts and motor yachts have deepened his appreciation for the sea. Trevor views every voyage an opportunity to connect with nature and those who share his passion for seafaring.
Our Story
The origin story of Young Yachting Charters is one of tragedy turned into triumph. Founders and Los Angeles locals Logan and Myles initially connected over the untimely passing of a mutual friend.
"At Darryl’s candlelight vigil, Logan approached me and invited me onto a burial at sea charter later that week. I didn’t hesitate to accept, but had no idea he would be the captain. I admired his command of the vessel and his ability to stay focused while simultaneously caring for everyone’s safety despite the somber mood so I asked him about his sailing background. In response, he invited me to start crewing some charter boats he was captaining and began to teach me basically everything I know about boats. As our friendship grew I think both of us discovered how much we have in common, including our work ethic, our mutual love of the ocean, and our appreciation for the opportunity to share that love with others in an impactful way. Having a business background and seeing what Logan was capable of, I naturally questioned if he’d ever thought of running his own charter business. It was then that we began to turn that thought into an actionable plan."

Frequently Asked Questions
Young Yachting Charters is committed to excellent service. We aim to bring the enjoyment of the ocean to all of our valued guests and to make the process of securing a booking and preparing for a private charter as seamless as possible. Please contact us with any questions.
We aim to make the customer journey as simple as possible. The price you pay online when booking a charter includes everything -dock fees, captain fees, tax, fuel surcharge, etc. Only tips are excluded.
Our customers typically tip 10% to 20% of the total booking fee paid at checkout to the captain of the vessel. This is typically done at the end of the charter onboard the vessel – captains typically accept various methods of payment (cash, zelle, venmo, apple cash, etc.)

Please see our cancellation policy for more details.
- A bareboat charter refers to a vessel rented out by its owner to another individual (the “charterer”) for a set duration, without providing a captain or crew.
- Such vessels are classified as recreational and might not undergo Passenger Vessel inspections by the United States Coast Guard.
- The charterer then employs a captain who assumes full responsibility for the vessel’s safe navigation and the well-being of its passengers.
- Typically, the vessel owner is not liable for any accidents, personal injuries, or crew wages.
- The charterer must handle the vessel’s crew, fuel, insurance, maintenance, repairs, and any associated liabilities.
- The charterer must have the freedom to hire and fire the crew, including the master, without needing the owner’s approval.
- The owner may set general proficiency standards for the crew based on federal regulations.
- The Captain reserves the right to return the vessel at any time and for any reason.
- Charterers and their passengers must ensure they fully understand and agree to the terms outlined in any bareboat charter agreement.
We will specify these details on a per service basis – please be careful to read the service description when you check out. Typically, the limit is 12 guests total due to bareboat charter regulations in Marina del Rey.
- It is recommended for guests to bring their own food, drinks (including alcohol), and ice.
- Refrigerators and coolers are provided onboard for storage and temperature control of guests’ food and beverages
- Please abstain from bringing red wine or cranberry juice – we aim to avoid hard-to-remove stains.
- Easily removable footwear is recommended as most owners have a no shoes policy on chartering vessels.
- Dressing in layers of comfortable clothing is recommended. Out at sea, the windchill factor can decrease the temperature significantly even on a hot day. Dressing in layers allows guests to adjust to the wide range of temperatures that may be encountered.
- Sunglasses, hats, and sunscreen are all recommended.
- Per US Coast Guard regulations, all children under the age of 13 are required to wear a life jacket, which will be provided by your captain.
- Life jackets are stored on board per regulation and available for all guests upon request. However, individuals age 13 or older may choose whether to wear a life jacket or not.
- All of our guests will be required to sign a release of liability waiver before departure and are responsible for their own behaviors on the private charter.
- The chartering individual will have to sign an independent captain service agreement, indicating their acknowledgment that the captain is hired independently by them in accordance with bareboat charter regulations.
- If your party’s pickup location is Dock 55, the county may have you and your party members fill out the LA County Department of Beaches & Harbors waiver for Dock 55 before being admitted onto the dock for pickup. If this applies to you, more detail about this will be provided in your confirmation email.
Our guests are free to install temporary decorations provided they adhere to the following rules:
- Decorations are temporary in nature and easily removed
- Decorations do not cause damage to the vessel
- Decorations do not impede the captain’s ability to navigate or otherwise conduct standard duties
- Decorations do not cause pollution
Our guests are free to swim and use the provided paddleboard/kayak but agree to do so at their own risk. The captain is not a lifeguard and reserves the right to prohibit guests from engaging in such activities if (s)he deems conditions or circumstances unsuitable for any reason.
Everyone has different responses to the sensation of sailing on the open sea. We recommend speaking to your licensed medical provider for advice on the matter if this is a concern for you. In the event you do feel seasick, please speak to the captain for advice. The captain will suggest the best spot on the boat as well as some effective strategies for combatting seasickness.
The captain will speak to you at the beginning of your private charter and offer you route options. Typically, our guests choose to sail north towards Santa Monica Bay, Topanga, and Malibu, or south, towards Redondo Harbor and Palos Verdes. The routes offered by the captain will depend on the conditions present, length of the charter, and other factors (whether guests want to swim, how long they prefer to stop for before returning).
The captain has final say in what is permitted or prohibited but we advise strongly that guests use common sense:
- Please avoid red wine and cranberry juice
- Firearms, fireworks, and explosives are prohibited
- Illegal drugs are prohibited
